Tree Climbing Saddles & Harnesses

Climbing harnesses and tree saddles are very important for safe climbing, especially if you’re trying to navigate heavy canopies. Regardless of what type of climber you are or what type of work you are doing in the Tree Care Industry, one thing is for sure: you better be comfortable in your tree harness! With the many varieties of different tree saddle options that focus on comfort--right now is a great time to be a climber. Bartlett carries lots of great harness options from trusted brands such as Petzl, Teufelberger and Weaver Leather.

Ergonomics tend to play a big role in our climbing gear. Climbing is hard work, and comfortable gear goes a long way in allowing climbers to enjoy long careers. Sling saddles tend to be an older, more traditional style harness that didn’t look much towards comfort but more towards ease of use and affordability. Sling saddles tend to be more in the value range, but comfort won’t be the main selling point. A fan favorite amongst the sling saddles is the Weaver Sling Style Saddle.

Harnesses with leg straps tend to give the climber more mobility by allowing their legs range of movement while weighted. Many of the newer, high-end harnesses tend to have leg straps instead of the traditional sit style, but an optional batten seat can be added to some newer harnesses. The reasoning behind this has been with comfort in mind and because of this, their prices tend to be higher. Look at it this way, it’s an investment into your climbing career that pays off by potentially adding a few more years spent in the canopy! You cannot go wrong with the Petzl Sequoia Saddle (which is also available in an SRT version) or the very famous Teufelberger Tree Motion Pro!

We also offer harness and suspender options that can make your set-up even more comfortable.

Regardless of price, a sling or leg saddle will be of no use to you if you are uncomfortable in it. Making sure that the fit is exact with summer and winter clothes on will maximize your investment and your ability to climb comfortably.
