A 'Solidur' Pair of Chainsaw Pants
The Seed was Planted
Several years ago I remember looking through an arborist supply catalog while sitting in the bucket truck at lunch. In it I saw an ad for a pair of chainsaw pants that cost $300 and my mind was blown! 'Who in the hell would pay $300 for a pair of pants?' was all I could muster under my breath. The guys sitting next to me felt the same way! That was crazy! Our blue jeans cost a fraction of that and I could buy 10, heck 15 pair for the price of this one pair of pants! But, I must say, the thought of having a pair of chainsaw pants had planted a small seed inside of my head, even if I was bewildered about how I could afford a pair!
So after the seed had been planted in my head about having a pair of chainsaw pants, I couldn't get the thought of them out of my mind. In my head, these pants had grown into a thing that I personally felt would make me feel like I had met a milestone in my career. I know this might sound weird, but I'm sure we have all had those milestone goals in our head, whether it be getting a raise, becoming a Certified Arborist, a CTSP, or becoming a crew leader. I just felt that having a pair of chainsaw pants would put me on the same level as a lot of the other climbers I was looking up to in the industry.
I Took the Plunge
Finally, the day came that I purchased my first pair of saw pants! I felt like a million bucks, well I actually felt like $9,999,700 to be exact seeing as i had just spent the big 3-0-0 on a pair of pants. I put them on and walked around the house in them and felt indestructible! To top it off, the next day I went into work and almost everyone in the yard made fun of me because I wasn't wearing blue jeans. Apparently, they hadn't been on the same page as me on how cool saw pants are!
Over the years, I have owned almost every pair of saw pants that are on the market and they all have their pros and cons. They all cost more than a pair of blue jeans; there is simply no way around this with a pair of pants that give you a ton of protection against thorns, water, or a chainsaw versus a pair of everyday jeans. The life span of most saw pants is around 3-5 years. I feel for the protection that they offer, as well as the convenience of never having to go get the chaps out of the truck or not wearing chaps at all because I was too lazy to go to the truck, along with the life span makes them worth every penny I've spent on them.
Bartlett Introduces Solidur Saw Pants
When it came to Bartlett Arborist Supply carrying saw pants, we wanted to make sure we were making the right choice in providing the best possible product, while also offering our customers (you) the best possible price. While we knew how hard it was to stomach the price of $300 for a pair of pants, we knew that most of our customers would feel the same way, SO we decided to start carrying Solidur saw pants.
We met the guys from Solidur at TCIA Expo in November and immediately got pants out to our climbers to start demoing and torture testing. All of our reviews came back with above average results! This is exactly what we were hoping for with these pants!
Benefits of Solidur Saw Pants
The great thing about Solidur saw pants is that they are super affordable and high quality! The three models of pants that we offer from Solidur range from $96 to $219, which gives you a ton of room in your pocketbook to get multiple pairs or to hook your entire crew up with saw pants. Having your workers wear saw pants is a sure fire way to make sure they are safe while using a saw on the ground and in the tree, as well as making sure you are in compliance with OSHA regulations for chainsaw use!
One of the common places I see workers not using saw protection while on the ground is when they are feeding the chipper. There tends to be that one branch that has a weird twist to it or it's a bit too wide for the chipper to feed in. Instead of going to the side bin to grab the chaps, they just grab the saw and cut the limb'it's only one cut right? Now imagine if they had a pair of saw pants on. They can cut whenever they want to and their legs are going to be protected, plus if that OSHA officer is sitting across the street, he can watch them as they make a protected cut. Saw pants really do make your work day easier!
To wrap this up, saw pants are a very attainable thing in our industry and they can totally make your work practices safer by using them. With the great prices on the Solidur saw pants, I highly recommend you pick up a pair or at least visit our shop and try them on. I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed with the quality of the pants, the life span you'll get out of them, or the price point! Come check them out today!
