Climbing Throw Lines & Weights
A throw line is a common climbing tool for beginning your tie in set-up. The line is a small diameter cord used with a miniature weight (called a throw weight or throw bag) attached to one end. The weight is thrown into a tree and over a suitable limb. The climb line is then pulled into the tree with the throw line giving the climber a safe tie in point from the ground. If you’ve never used a throw line and weight before, we suggest you check out our blog on best practices or watch this video.
Throw lines come in a variety of different materials that each have different properties. Throw bags come in different weights and styles allowing for easier throws or for specialty use with different tree types. Some tree climbers opt to use a Big Shot throw line launcher to get their line into a tree instead of hand throwing.
