US Rigging Small Stainless Steel Twisted Clevis

A small piece of hardware that makes a meaningful difference in how your system performs. The 90-degree twist on this stainless steel clevis is purpose-built for arborist positioning lanyards and rope grab connections — it allows your rope grab to orient correctly on the rope, reducing friction and improving function. Many climbers also use it to hard-connect a rope grab directly to their hip D-ring, keeping the grab properly aligned and within easy reach. Lockable with pliers for a secure, rattle-free connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a twisted clevis used for in arborist work?
A twisted clevis is primarily used on positioning lanyards to connect a rope grab to a climber's hip D-ring. The 90-degree twist allows the rope grab to sit at the correct angle on the rope, improving function and reducing wear on both the grab and the rope.

Why does the twist angle matter?
Without the twist, a clevis connecting a rope grab to a hip D-ring would force the grab to sit at an awkward angle on the rope, potentially reducing its efficiency or causing it to bind. The 90-degree twist corrects this geometry so the grab operates as designed.

What rope grabs is this compatible with?
This twisted clevis fits all rope grabs carried by Bartlett Arborist Supply, making it a versatile connection option across your climbing system.

What does WLL mean?
WLL stands for Working Load Limit — the maximum load the hardware is rated for in normal use. At 1,380 lbs (6kN), this clevis provides a substantial safety margin for typical arborist positioning applications.

How is the clevis locked?
The clevis pin is lockable using pliers — no special tools required. This keeps the connection secure during use while still allowing removal when needed.

The 5/16" fits well with the SMC double-tie-in pulley for a more compact version of the hitch-climber system. I put a screw through the pin-hole for better tightening and attached a tether to hold the pin captive (just short enough to keep the pin in the hole). I know that's not ANSI-compliant, but it works well for a hobbyist.
